【 liuxue86.com - 雅思作文 】

It is quite common these days for young people in many countries to have a break from studying after graduating from high school. The trend is not restricted(受限制) to rich students who have the money to travel, but it also evident among poorer students who choose to work and become economically independence for a period of time.

The reason for this trend may involve the recognition(识别,认出) that a young adult who pass directly from school to university is rather restricted in terms of general knowledge and experience of the world. By contrast, those who have spent some time earning a living or travelling to other places, have a broader view of life and better personal resources to draw on. They tend to be more independent, which is a very important factor in academic study and research, as well as giving them an advantage in terms of coping with the challenges of student life.

However, there are certainly dangers in taking time off at that important age. Young adults may end up never returning to their studies or finding it difficult to readapt to an academic environment. They may think that it is better to continue in a particular job, or to do something completely different from a university course. But overall, I think this is less likely today, when academic qualifications are essential for getting a reasonable career.

My view is that young people should be encouraged to broaden their horizons. That is the best way for them to get a clear perspective of what they are hoping to do with their lives and why. Students with such a perspective are usually the most effective and motivated ones and taking a year off may be the best way to gain this.

  5. Many people are optimistic about the 21 st century and see it as an opportunity to make positive changes to the world. To what extent do you agree or disagree with their optimism? What changes would you like to be in the new century?

When the times come into the 21st Century, people always want to begin again from zero, they think that they should have a new start in the new century, the new century is an opportunity to make positive changes to the world. In this century,

  6. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of drink and smoke.

As we all know, smoke excessively(过量地) have a bad effect on our health, and drink at the proper amount can promote(促进) our health. So all of us should do like this: don’t smoke and drink properly.

However, in our daily life, the situation is not very optimistic. An official of WHO said, if we don’t take measures, in the next 10 years, there will be 3.88 hundred million people die because of the chronic(慢性的) diseases, and 80 million of them are Chinese. Some young people think that the adults are very cool when they are drinking or smoking, so these youths begin to imitate(模仿) the grow-ups out of curiosity, and this is one of the reason why some teenagers begin to drink and smoke.

In fact, as a coin has two sides, things always have its advantages and disadvantages, smoke properly can make people forget the sad things in their life provisionally(暂时的), it’s good for decrease the mental pressures. On the other hand, for the country, every year, the tax of cigarette has a great proportion(比例) in the financial income, so smokers accumulate a large amount of wealth for our country. But if they smoke too much, it will cause many kinds of illness, the result will be very serious. As for drink, if people drink properly, it’s very good, or it’s very bad for their health.

In foreign countries, there’re many laws to limit the actions such as smoke and drink. For instance, in England, if people buy wine in a shop, the assistant have the right to check the their ID cards, the bars can’t admit(接待) guests under 18 years old. And if someone smokes in a no smoking area, he will be fined 50 pounds, if the assistant in a no smoke area don’t forbid the smoker in this area, he will be fined 2500 pounds. Also, the government improved the statutory(法定的) age that is allowed to buy cigarette from16 to18.

In China, the Protection of Minors Act formulates(规定) that all the people are not allowed to smoke in public places and the places that is full of young people such as kindergartens and nurseries. So far, the law is not perfect yet, so the government should do some things to ameliorate(健全) it.

  7. Nowadays we are producing more and more rubbish. Why do you think this is happening? What can governments do to reduce the amount of rubbish produced?

It is true that in many countries every family produces a large amount of rubbish each day, and many of them are plastic bags, for example, when we go to the supermarket to buy something to eat or to use, we need a plastic bag to load(装运) them. And when we go home, we will take them out of the bag, so the bag will become a piece of rubbish.

It’s no doubt that this is a convenient way to take the goods to our home, but we forget that it’s also a resource of environmental pollution.

The reason why we produce so much rubbish is our habits that using something once and throw it away. But we don’t recognize that the making process of the plastic bags always uses the resource and it also pollutes the environment seriously.

In my opinion, government should take action to solve the problem, for example, children should be educated about environmental issues and adults need to take measures. Government can encourage these actions by collecting taxes on packaging, such as plastic bags and fined families and shops that don’t try to recycle their wastes.

I believe that with these useful actions, we can solve the pollutions caused by rubbish.

  8. Some people think it’s acceptable to use animals for the benefits of human. Other people think it’s wrong to exploit( 开发 ) animals for human purpose. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

In the present-day society, many animals are used for the benefits of human. However, as for this thing, there are two different opinions spreading in throng(人群), some people think it is acceptable to do like this, but others think it is wrong to exploit animals for human purpose.

In my opinion, it is proper to use animals rationally(合理地). On the one hand, animals can help us do many things, for instance, in the past, horses can help us carry many heavy things, and dogs can guard(看守) houses for us. On the other hand, with the development of modern science, there are many new technologies are appearing continually, so we need some animals such as mice or rabbits to check out its effect.

However, it is very bad if we abuse the animals. Recently, some people hunt a large number of wild animals in order to get some parts of their body to make money. For example, they hunt elephants to get their teeth, and hunt tigers to obtain their bones, or kill marten (貂) and get their fur to make luxurious clothes and so on. This action will break the balance of the ecological environment, the most important of all, their behavior reveals their indifferent to life.

In all, if we use animals properly, they will help us a lot, or it will destroy the environment which is very weak, finally, we will be revenged by the environment.

  9. There are more problems with city traffic. What are the causes and what are your solutions? report 类文章,含模板,“     ”为填充模板的部分,“     ”为拓展部分。)

The traffic problem in China has become a hot topic in recent years. People and government have attached more importance to this problem since they have to spend more money on traffic accidents. Here, I would like to explore the complicated(复杂的) problem from different aspects(方面) and its causes and suggest some possible measures.

A great number of factors contribute to the increasing serious problem.

Here a few of them would be explored. The first factor is lax traffic rules and regulations, drivers tend to dash their cars around crazily since they know that little penalty will be imposed(施加) on even if they break the traffic rules and regulations. Furthermore, the streets are too old and narrow to meet the present need. Last but not the least, population growth accounts partly for the problem. (部分说明这个问题) Migrant workers in cities have little awareness of traffic rules that may lead to injuries and deaths of drivers, passengers or pedestrians. Meanwhile, the construction of new roads is very slow.

As far as the pressing issue is concerned several measures are worth mentioning. First of all, drivers, passengers or pedestrians should obey the traffic rules seriously, and government should formulate(制订) severer rules to punish the men who break the rules. These punishments must let them know the perniciousness(危害性) of their behavior and dare not to break them again. Moreover, the government should input more money to build some new roads and speed up. Last of all, government should educate the migrant workers obey the traffic rules for their own safety.

In conclusion, it is the time for people and the government to be aware of the problem. I believe that with the above-mentioned measures, we can solve the problem effectively.

  10. Some people think that a sense of competition in children should be encouraged. Others believe that children who are taught to co-orperate rather than compete become more useful adults. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

In the present-day society, the competition is very violent. Some peoplethink that a sense of competition in children should be encouraged. Others believe that children who are taught to co-orperate rather than compete become more useful adults.

I think sometimes, proper competition is necessary, for instance in an examination, children can compete for the top one, this can bring the gladness of success to them and make them compete with other children later in a similar occasion, it is helpful for them to improve their ability.

And, I think that if the children have a common objective they should co-operate, for example, some children get together and work for a handwork, if they finish it together and achieve a praise from their teacher, they would be very happy. However, the most significant is that they can learn the reason that only co-operation can leads to double win. This can cultivate their habit of co-operation.

In conclusion, both competition and co-operation are important for children in the modern society, if they can know the different occasion they should compete or cooperation they can become successful men.

  11. Today, the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising and not the real needs of the society in which they are sold. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Nowadays, there are so many advertisements in our daily life on TV or on the newspapers. These advertisements have a very big effect on people who want to buy some goods. Some people buy the goods because of they are advertised by their favourite singers or movie stars, but actually, they do not need such things.

Because of these “star effects”, many people buy goods without enough consideration, moreover, customers purchase a product because of its advertisement, other people may effected by such a trend, even if they do not really need this product.

However, I think the advertisements also have their good function, if people want to buy some goods they need, but they do not know its specific situation, the advertisement can give them a guide.

In conclusion, the customers have their own opinions to decide what they need and want, the advertisements can just offer them a reference and it is not the decisive factor. But in some special aspects such as toys, it may be necessary to band advertising to the children because they do not have enough ability to control themselves or to know what they need.

  12. Some people believe that visitors to other countries should follow local customers and behaviour. Others disagree and think that the host country should welcome cultural differences. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Nowadays, with the development of the modern technology, it is very convenient for most people to travel to other places. But one of the most important things is that how to get along with the local people? Some people think they should follow the local customs, and others think the host country should welcome the cultural differences.

I know there is a saying:“When in Rome, do as the Romans do”, it support the former, I think customers follow the local customs is reasonable, it can avoid the disgusting and repugnance. After all, if the customers keep their own habits in some other places, it will make the local people unhappy. For example, if a person from the Han nationality eat pork in the area of the Hui nationality, the local people will be very angry because they think pigs are their ancestors.

However, in my opinion, the second view is also justifiable, because such behaviours are good for the promotion of cultural fuse in different areas, and it can finally make the different kinds of people unite as one man, but there is a very important precondition: these measures cannot break the behaviours of the local people.

In conclusion, I think visitors can keep their own customs in other places after they respect the customs of the local people.

  13. Successful sports professionals can earn a great deal of money than people in other important professions. Some people think this is

fully justified while others think it is unfair. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

As a result of the sustained media attention, the sports professionals are very famous in my country, they have plenty of fans and are paid lots of salaries, just like Yao Ming, he can make more than ten million dollars per year, it is a large amount of money, and some movie stars owe excessive huge houses and splendid cars.

Lots of people consider that this is unfair, especially when comparing with scientists or governors. In their opinion, scientists and governors pay too much for their country and the human beings, and the sports professionals only take part in some matches, but they can earn much more money than the former. They think this phenomenon is unreasonable.

But in my opinion, sports professionals’ salaries are not determined by the contribution they made to the society, instead, they indicate the public support of their fans, so the “unfair” is not a problem.

The people who feel that sports stars’ salaries are justified may think that the number of professionals with real talent is very few, and money is the recognition of their skills, and on the other hand, the players are spotlight and have little privacy, so all these factors may justified the great amount of money.

Personally, I think the large amount of salaries sports players make is more justified than some mediocre(平庸的) movie stars, and phenomenon is also indicates the attention and value placed by the social sports.

  14. Using a computer every day can have more negative than positive effects on young children. Do you agree or disagree?

In the present-day society, with the development of information technology, computers are one of the indispensable things in our daily life.

There is no doubt that computers bring us much convenience, we can use them to get useful information, play games, watch movies and so on. However, one of the important things is: using a computer ever day is a good thing or not for children?

Well, in my opinion, using a computer each day will have a negative effect on children. Sitting in front of a screen for too long is bad for our eyes, and the radiation of the computers can damage our bodies. Nowadays, many kids are addicted to the computer games, as a player, they are usually a “hero” in the game; they can fight with their “enemies” and finally dill them. This brings the players much excitement.

In spite of this, the obvious benefits of computers for young children can not be ignored, they can find out too much useful information through the internet, of course it is good for their study. Moreover, they can also study other skills such as programme etc. and these skills are useful to them, they can make it easier for them to find a job in the future.

I think the main point is to make sure that young children do not overuse computers. Parents must guarantee their kids study to enjoy other types of activities and not easily sit at home and chat on the internet.
