The Chinese built their pagodas in brick or stone， with inner staircases， and used them in later centuries mainly as the pagoda reached Japan， however， its architecture was freely adapted to local conditions - they were built less high， typically five rather than nine storeys， made mainly of wood and the staircase was dispensed with because the Japanese pagoda did not have any practical use but became more of an art object.
例如： anthropology is the scientific study of man。
In slang the term ＂jam＂ constitutes a state of being in which a personfinds himself or herself in a difficult situation。
定义句的谓语动词多为：be， mean， deal with， beconsidered， to be， refer to， be called， be known as， define， represent， signify，constitute等。
